However, since its launch, the game has faced serious setbacks, transitioning from its ambitious concept to limited solo and co-op play, and ultimately experiencing developer layoffs.

**Initial Promise and Downgrade**

The game’s initial reveal hinted at a thrilling experience where players would engage in competitive heists, making strategic decisions to outsmart opponents in a dynamic online environment. However, as the release date approached, the developers at OtherSide Entertainment announced a shift away from the multiplayer PvPvE mechanics to focus solely on solo and cooperative modes. This change sparked disappointment among fans who were looking forward to the competitive elements that set “Thick as Thieves” apart from other immersive sims.

**Developer Challenges**

Following the game’s launch, OtherSide Entertainment faced harsh realities as the game failed to meet expectations, leading to significant layoffs within the development team. This move highlighted the precarious nature of the gaming industry, where even promising titles can struggle to sustain a workforce. The remaining small team expressed their sorrow over the situation and acknowledged the reality that no further content updates would be feasible due to dwindling resources.

**Commitment to Playability**

Amid these challenges, the developers reassured players that the game would remain playable. They have collaborated with their publisher, Megabit, to transition from cloud-based servers to a Peer-to-Peer system for co-op play. This change is crucial as it ensures players can continue enjoying the game without relying on dedicated servers, which, in light of current trends, is a refreshing approach. The core gameplay will stay the same, and solo players will experience no disruptions.

**Future Outlook**

Once the transition to Peer-to-Peer servers is completed, responsibility for addressing any future bugs or issues will fall to Megabit. While the situation for “Thick as Thieves” is undeniably bittersweet, the commitment from the developers to keep the game accessible is commendable, especially in an age where many online games face abrupt shutdowns without offering alternatives for players.

**Conclusion**

“Thick as Thieves” serves as a case study in the volatility of the gaming industry, where high hopes can be dashed by unforeseen circumstances. For players willing to take a chance, the game is affordable, priced at just five dollars, presenting a low-risk opportunity to explore its offerings. While the journey of “Thick as Thieves” has been tumultuous, the dedication to maintaining an active player base through Peer-to-Peer connections is a silver lining in a challenging landscape.

Poor Thick as Thieves. When it was revealed over two years ago it had some promise, or at the very least an interesting mechanical premise in that it was a multiplayer immersive sim where everyone would be competing for the same loot. This got downgraded earlier this year ahead of its launch to just solo or co-op play, a real shame but hey ho, how many co-op imsims are there anyway? Sadly, the game has clearly not done well, as a number of layoffs have taken place at developer OtherSide Entertainment following its launch. But at the very least, what’s left of the studio has some positive news: it won’t become unplayable.

[1

post-40074","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
