Priced at £50 / $60 / €55, it emerged as an ambitious entry into the soulslike genre, reminiscent of titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

**Initial Impressions**

The game begins with promise, immersing players in a visually stunning fantasy forest with diverse enemies and unique gameplay mechanics. Players assume the role of Emma, a “Purifier” tasked with defeating powerful woodland beasts. The early game showcases an engaging parry system, paired with a satisfying combat rhythm, creating a sense of accomplishment as players learn to master enemy attacks.

**Gameplay Mechanics**

Drawing inspiration from the soulslike genre, the combat revolves around dealing posture damage and executing stylish final blows following well-timed parries. Emma’s Entanglement Gauge introduces an interesting risk-reward mechanic, allowing players to slow down time while consuming the gauge. Additionally, Koo, a companion character, offers tactical options to exploit enemy weaknesses.

**Visuals and Exploration**

The game’s art style is vibrant, boasting impressive landscapes and character designs. Players explore twelve open-zone levels filled with enemies and challenges that cultivate a sense of adventure. Mechanics like traversal using Emma’s hair add a creative layer to exploration, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.

**Repetitive Gameplay**

However, as players progress, the excitement begins to wane. The game relies heavily on repetitive environments and enemy encounters, with bosses recycling attack patterns. As the journey unfolds, the novelty of initial mechanics fades, leading to a sense of disengagement.

**Narrative and Pacing Issues**

The narrative lacks depth, often delivering long-winded cutscenes that interrupt gameplay flow. Conversations with NPCs feel surface-level and contribute to the game’s pacing issues, creating a frustrating experience as players seek action rather than exposition.

**Conclusion**

Despite its promising start and engaging mechanics, Beast Of Reincarnation ultimately falls short due to repetitiveness and pacing flaws. While it offers moments of excitement and creativity, the overarching experience becomes tedious, making it challenging for players to maintain interest. The game serves as a reminder that innovation must continue beyond the initial charm to keep players engaged throughout their adventure.

Beast Of Reincarnation opened pretty promisingly. Its first stretch dropped me into a sprawling fantasy forestscape full of deadly spore-sprouting woodland creatures, gave me a sick hat and a fireball-shooting dog, then strapped a katana in my hand and introduced a real solid parry clang that would fire dopamine into my brain every time I landed it.

Considering the generous parry window let me effortlessly deflect the boulder-sized suckerpunches of a 9ft grizzly bear, I figured this was shaping up to be a very pretty and particularly accessible Sekiro-like. And what’s more, it was from the minds behind Pokemon, Game Freak, who were trying something very different after being trapped making games under the beady, all-seeing eye of a kawaii yellow rat for so many decades. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long to realise the cool hat, the fireball-shooting dog and a satisfying parry clang were a cunning facade.

Beast Of Reincarnation is, in fact, a big old wad of chewing gum for the brain. I got the sweet taste up front, before it quickly squished down to the slimy, flavourless nothingness I continued chewing on autopilot.

[1

post-41125","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
