Set in a desolate Soviet city, haunted by remnants of war, players navigate a world filled with ominous tanks draped in the disturbing remains of cattle corpses. This three-player co-op game offers a shared challenge of piloting a tank and engaging in combat against enemy units.

Fans of Wrong Organ might recognize them as the creators behind the psychological horror game *Mouthwashing*. Their transition to a multiplayer co-op format comes as a surprise, yet it showcases their ability to explore new gameplay mechanics. According to gameplay lead Jeffrey Tomec, the team aimed to break free from the confines of their previous work, stating, “We wanted to make sure we tried something entirely new, and weren’t just stuck in the box of painful walking sims.”

### Gameplay Dynamics

In stark contrast to the narrative-driven intensity of *Mouthwashing*, *Carcass Clad* focuses on gameplay complexity. During my experience, I entered the cramped cockpit of a Soviet-era tank, assuming the role of Gunner. The tank requires three players: Gunner, Commander, and Driver, each contributing to the team’s success. Tomec described Gunner as the simplest role, yet my firsthand experience revealed the layer of challenge that comes with it.

Teamwork is essential in *Carcass Clad*. Players must coordinate effectively to destroy enemy tanks while avoiding becoming targets themselves. The game’s tension stems from communication and mutual accountability; as Tomec humorously noted, “The horror in this game is in trying to work with your friends and yelling at them for not doing their job.” In-game voice chat enhances this experience, creating an immersive atmosphere within the confines of the tank, complete with the sounds of warfare and the frantic demands of teammates.

### Responsibilities of the Gunner

My responsibilities as Gunner included loading artillery shells, calibrating aim, and performing repairs—all while managing the chaos of a tank under fire. Controlling these actions with a mouse required careful precision, adding to the intense feeling of pressure. Each task demanded attention, whether loading shells from rotating cylinders or aiming through the periscope to ensure hits on targets.

The intricate roles of the Commander and Driver further amplified the challenge, as each player navigated their specific duties amidst the chaos of battle. This design fosters an environment of urgency and collaboration, reminiscent of a busy kitchen but with higher stakes: failure results in the team’s downfall.

### Balancing Challenge with Accessibility

*Carcass Clad* deliberately leans towards a less accessible gaming experience. As Tomec explained, “A game for everyone is a game for no one. We’re okay with it being less accessible to absolutely everyone; we wanted it to be something that isn’t just booted up to have on in the background.” This philosophy emphasizes the game’s role as a challenging experience that requires players’ full engagement.

During my play session, we remarkably managed to defeat an enemy tank, only for our own tank to succumb moments later. This bittersweet victory highlighted the game’s design: a fleeting sense of achievement in a high-stakes environment. The developers maintained an upbeat tone, celebrating our brief victory as we navigated the chaotic aftermath.

### Conclusion

*Carcass Clad* promises to offer a distinct and challenging gaming experience, inviting players who relish cooperative gameplay and the thrill of high-pressure scenarios. The game’s unique blend of teamwork, strategy, and stress may appeal to those looking for something out of the ordinary. Despite its targeted approach, it presents an opportunity to simulate conflict in a controlled, albeit tense, environment.

With its release on the horizon, fans of co-op games and those who enjoy vocalizing frustration to friends might find *Carcass Clad* to be a worthy addition to their gaming repertoire.

*Embrace the chaos, and prepare for a unique experience that could redefine your understanding of cooperative gameplay.*

On my final day of Gamescom, strolling (running) around the indie area to make sure I don’t miss anything good, I stumble upon Wrong Organ’s upcoming Carcass Clad. Set in a wartorn Soviet city, empty of people but littered with tanks wearing coats of Frankensteined cattle corpses (light stuff!), Carcass Clad is a three-player co-op experience that shares the stressful responsibility of piloting a tank and taking down enemy units between those unlucky three.

If you read the name Wrong Organ and thought, ‘Wait, the Mouthwashing team?
