# Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 – A Return to Form for the Franchise
As anticipation mounts for the launch of *Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4* (MW4) on October 23, those who pre-ordered the digital edition have already immersed themselves in its single-player narrative, which became accessible earlier. Preliminary reviews suggest that MW4 revitalizes the classic campaign structure of the series, although it may not quite hit the heights of earlier installments.
## Early Reception
While no scored critiques have surfaced due to the awaited multiplayer aspect, initial feedback indicates a better reception in contrast to last year’s *Black Ops 7*. Reviewers noted that MW4’s six-hour, 16-mission campaign aligns more closely with what fans have come to expect from a series that has seen seven versions.
### Highlights from Early Reviews
*PC Gamer* hailed MW4 as an essential single-player experience, pointing to standout segments that bring to mind memorable moments from earlier games in the series. However, they took issue with the narrative, describing it as feeling hurried and unsatisfactory, particularly regarding the role of actor Mads Mikkelsen. Morgan Park from *PC Gamer* remarked, “This was advertised as the conclusion to the Modern Warfare storyline that began in 2019, but in reality, it feels more like a rush to wrap it all up.”
In a similar vein, *IGN* recognized the engaging elements of the campaign, singling out a mission comparable to “Korea’s answer to D-Day.” They reiterated concerns regarding story pacing but affirmed the overall quality of the gameplay experience.
