# Wizards of the Coast Reveals *Magic: The Gathering*’s *Tarkir Dragonstorm* Expansion

As *Magic: The Gathering* (MTG) progresses into 2025, Wizards of the Coast keeps the excitement high with new set announcements. While many enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the *Universes Beyond – Final Fantasy* set set to debut in June 2025, another significant expansion will come first—*Tarkir Dragonstorm*. This forthcoming *Universes Within* set revisits the cherished Plane of Tarkir, reintroducing beloved characters, mechanics, and stunning new card designs.

## New & Returning Mechanics in *Tarkir Dragonstorm*

As with every significant MTG release, *Tarkir Dragonstorm* brings a blend of innovative and classic mechanics to enhance gameplay. Here’s what players can anticipate:

### **New Mechanics**

– **Omen** – Drawing inspiration from the *Wilds of Eldraine* Adventure mechanic, Omen cards enable players to activate one effect prior to reshuffling the card back into their library instead of exiling it. This presents a dual-function card experience with an intriguing twist.
– **Endures X** – Every time another non-token creature dies, the creature with Endures receives X +1/+1 counters or generates an X/X white Spirit creature token.
– **Flurry** – Activates an effect whenever a player casts their second spell during a turn.
– **Mobilize X** – When a creature with Mobilize attacks, it produces X tapped attacking 1/1 red Warrior creature tokens, which are sacrificed at the start of the next end step.
– **Renew** – Grants players the option to exile a card from their graveyard by paying X mana, then placing a keyword counter (matching the card’s properties) on a target creature. This functionality can only be triggered as a sorcery.
– **Harmonize** – Allows players to cast a card from their graveyard for its Harmonize cost. Players may tap a creature they control to lower the cost by the tapped creature’s power. Similar to Flashback, the card is exiled post-use.
– **Behold a [Dragon]** – Players can either choose a Dragon they control or reveal one from their hand to create a Treasure token. This mechanic is not limited to Dragon creatures, making it a versatile resource provider.

### **Returning Mechanics & Features**

– **Siege Enchantments** – First introduced in *Fate Reforged*, Siege Enchantments make a return with five new cards in *Tarkir Dragonstorm*. These enchantments feature multiple modes, requiring players to select one when cast.
– **Sagas** – A fresh series of Sagas will be included, each one depicting one of Tarkir’s five clans. The inaugural Saga revealed, *Rediscover the Way*, allows players to draw an additional card during its first two turns in play. These Sagas delve into the evolving dynamics between Tarkir’s Dragons and Khans.

## Returning Characters & Notable Reprints

A selection of iconic characters from Tarkir’s history re-emerges in *Tarkir Dragonstorm*:

– **Anafenza, Unyielding Liege** – A new iteration of Anafenza, a central figure in Tarkir’s saga.
– **Sidisi, Regent of the Mire** – A revamped version of Sidisi, the shrewd Sultai leader.
– **Craterhoof Behemoth** – Although not originally from Tarkir, this fan-favorite creature is back through special reprint treatments in the set.
