Sony to Phase Out PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program by 2026

Sony Interactive Entertainment has made it official regarding the termination of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, occurring in less than three years since its debut in 2022. This program, aimed at rewarding players for their interactions with PlayStation titles and services, will no longer accept new participants effective immediately. Current members will have until November 2, 2026, to utilize their accrued points, provided they don’t expire prior to that date.

A Brief Celebration of PlayStation Enthusiasm

PlayStation Stars was launched as a complimentary loyalty program intended to honor the PlayStation community. Members could accumulate points by participating in designated campaigns, purchasing games, and achieving trophies. These points could be exchanged for various rewards, such as PlayStation Store credit, digital collectibles, and select titles.

Furthermore, the program included a tiered ranking system, allowing players to achieve higher levels based on their activity and involvement. These levels provided additional advantages such as prioritized customer service and exclusive collectibles.

Despite its optimistic inception, Sony has opted to discontinue the PlayStation Stars program. In an official blog entry, the company referenced continuous assessments of user engagement and feedback as the rationale behind its choice. While the program will stop receiving updates with new campaigns or rewards after July 23, 2025, current members may still earn and redeem points until the final closure date in November 2026.

Important Dates for PlayStation Stars Participants

– May 21, 2025: Sony announces the termination of PlayStation Stars.
– July 23, 2025: All campaigns and new reward options will conclude.
– November 2, 2026: The PlayStation Stars program will officially conclude.
– September 2026: Final chance to redeem points, subject to individual expiration dates.

No Re-Entry for Canceled Members

Sony has specified that once a member opts to cancel their PlayStation Stars membership, rejoining the program will not be permitted. This policy highlights the definitive nature of the program’s closure and urges existing members to maximize their remaining time within the initiative.

Looking Ahead

Even though the end of PlayStation Stars might disappoint some fans, Sony has indicated potential plans for future community engagement and loyalty programs. Grace Chen, Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty, and Licensed Merchandise, expressed appreciation for the community and stressed that the company is seeking new avenues to honor and reward its players.

“We want to thank all of our players for supporting PlayStation Stars since the launch in 2022,” remarked Chen. “As we look for innovative methods to evolve our loyalty program efforts for the future, we’ll continue to celebrate all of our players through the various community activities we have in store.”

What Lies Ahead?

While no new loyalty initiative has been officially declared, Sony’s announcement implies that a successor to PlayStation Stars might be in the works. Fans are encouraged to keep an eye on official PlayStation channels for updates regarding any future programs.

In the interim, current PlayStation Stars members should examine their points balance and redeem any rewards before the program’s final shutdown in 2026. With the digital collectibles and rewards system soon to become a part of PlayStation’s history, now is the opportunity for fans to take full advantage of what remains of the program.
