Kitten Cup Studio and Big Blue Sky Games recently organized a unique outdoor demonstration for their forthcoming game, “Capy Castaway,” at Grange Park, Toronto, during Toronto Games Week on June 14th, 2025. Attendees had the opportunity to get an initial glimpse of the game’s gameplay and features, with prominent figures such as Saffron Bolduc-Chiong, CEO and Creative Director at Kitten Cup Studio, composer Mark Sparling, and Aaron Boulding, Head of Publishing at Big Blue Sky Games, present to elaborate on the project.
“Capy Castaway” centers around Capy, a capybara, and Corvi, a crow, as they traverse a new environment following a flood that forces them from their home. The game draws inspiration from Toronto, incorporating references to the city and the tale of Bonnie and Clyde, the capybaras that escaped from Toronto’s High Park Zoo in 2016. The backdrop features well-known Toronto landmarks like the Toronto Islands.
The gameplay highlights the collaboration between Capy and Corvi, each possessing distinct abilities to tackle puzzles and discover their surroundings. Capy is inquisitive and amiable, whereas Corvi is clever and assertive. The soundtrack, composed by Sparling, intends to be unforgettable while complementing the gameplay.
Bolduc-Chiong emphasized the choice to feature a crow as Capy’s ally, introducing an element of unpredictability and humor that echoes “The Legend of Zelda.” Boulding remarked on the allure of the game’s Toronto-themed narrative, which infuses a unique enthusiasm from the local developers.
“Capy Castaway” incorporates various Toronto references, like Canadian geese and a Tim Hortons-inspired coffee cup, adding a touch of familiarity to the game. Motivated by an animated depiction of a capybara swimming with yuzu, the game allows players to recreate that scene.
Though still in the development phase, “Capy Castaway” is planned for a soft launch in 2026 on PC (Steam) and consoles. Fans are encouraged to join the game’s Discord server for updates and additional information.
