In 2012, Lunar Software launched *Routine*, a space horror game that was initially scheduled for release in 2013, and now, more than ten years later, fans have received positive updates from the developers.
In 2012, Lunar Software introduced their project, *Routine*, as a space horror title endorsed by the then-active Steam Greenlight initiative. For those unfamiliar, the Steam Greenlight program was created to allow fans to vote on which indie games they wished to see featured on the Steam platform.
Developers would submit their projects to Greenlight, fans would cast their votes, and once a sufficient number of votes were collected, the indie game would be reviewed for inclusion in Steam’s marketplace. This program was discontinued in 2017, ceasing to accept new applications and leading to the establishment of Steam’s Steam Direct submission model. Steam Direct functions similarly and has been operational since the last title was approved by Greenlight.
Among the titles that garnered fan votes, *Routine* had a planned release in 2013. Now, over a decade later, Lunar Software’s developers have thrilling news to announce about *Routine*, especially since they had not been heard from since its last showcasing at Summer Game Fest 2022. The re-reveal trailer presented at SGF 2022 can be viewed below.
In a blog post on Steam, Lunar Software confirmed that *Routine* is still actively being developed and that they are nearing completion of the game. The update from the Lunar Software blog states, “*ROUTINE* is still very much in active development, and we are starting to approach the finish line for the game. We’ve gained valuable insights from past experiences, one of which is not to promise a release window until we are completely certain we can meet it. Nevertheless, we are optimistic that we will be able to provide more updates on this matter shortly.”
It is notable that renowned composer Mick Gordon (recognized for *DOOM* (2016) and *DOOM Eternal*) departed from the project in 2024; however, his composed tracks will still feature in the final product, though a different audio designer will take over the music production. Finally, Lunar Software promises fans that further information on Routine’s development will be available soon.
