Today, EA unveiled the next thrilling chapter in the Battlefield series, Battlefield 6, during a special event hosted in Los Angeles, California. The primary emphasis of this gathering was on the forthcoming multiplayer mode. Four years have passed since the launch of their previous title, Battlefield 2042, which has garnered a dedicated following.

Fans have been anxiously awaiting any news regarding this game, particularly since EA disclosed some information about the resurgence of their weapon systems and the revival of their character classes. Although there was no mention of single-player at this event, we not only gained considerable insights into what multiplayer entails in this release, but we also had the opportunity to play various multiplayer modes for several hours alongside a few hundred creators and members of the media.

Multiplayer Maps and Modes

The Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal event started off with an impressive video displaying some of the maps that will be available at launch. Beloved multiplayer modes are making a return, featuring classic favorites like Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush. Players will also engage in a variety of fast-paced, first-person shooter modes, including Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination, and King of the Hill. A completely new mode, Escalation, tasks two teams with capturing key control points. During our gameplay session, we had the opportunity to experience several of these modes.

“Battlefield 6 is shaping up to be one of the premier FPS launches of the year.”

I enjoyed playing Breakthrough, Squad Deathmatch, and Domination immensely. Battlefield 6 will debut with a comprehensive array of multiplayer modes and maps, transporting combat to a variety of striking locations around the globe. These maps include Siege of Cairo, Iberian Offensive, Liberation Peak, and Empire State. Each map contains multiple combat zones, meticulously crafted to suit specific modes, guaranteeing that every conflict enhances the player experience and accommodates different playstyles. The team also revealed a remake of the legendary Battlefield 3 map, Operation Firestorm, a revelation that received a thunderous applause from the audience.

Refreshed Classes

This new entry in the franchise implements a thorough redesign of the character classes. The iconic class system is back—now better than ever—with Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer roles allowing players to carve out their niche on the battlefield. Each class has been re-engineered with upgraded abilities, class-specific gadgets, signature weapons, and designated training, all aimed at steering teams toward triumph.

In the Q&A session, DICE producer David Sirland elaborated on why this shift was essential ahead of the game’s release. He stressed the significance of aiding players in fully comprehending how each role is intended to be played and pointed out that class balancing typically takes place post-launch. Sirland recognized that in earlier titles, the development team often had to adjust the “feel” of each class reactively to ensure everything worked as planned.

This time, however, considerable attention was given to refining and enhancing each class before the launch, ensuring players understand the intended role from the outset. The panel also noted that players frequently remain loyal to a preferred class, often shying away from others. With this revamp, the aim is to inspire players to rediscover the joy of experimenting with each role and find new motivations to try something different.

Tactical Destruction

This franchise is renowned for its destructible environments, and significant emphasis was placed on that during the reveal. Battlefield 6 pulls no punches this time around, and I was astounded by the extent to which destruction influences multiplayer gameplay.

“The new kinesthetic combat system introduces real tactical depth without compromising Battlefield’s grounded realism.”

So, what does tactical destruction entail? In Battlefield 6, destruction has been elevated to provide an unmatched level of freedom, allowing players to reshape the battlefield, create new pathways, flank adversaries, and manage the battle’s dynamics. For instance, if there is a bridge linking two structures, you can now demolish it to impede player movement in that region. If foes are situated above you, you can deploy C4 or launch explosive projectiles to bring down the floor beneath them, eliminating them as they descend.

This introduces a wholly new dimension to the Battlefield experience and heightens the standards for tactical navigation—especially in competitive scenarios.

Kinesthetic Combat System

The team introduced this new system that enhances movement and shooting mechanics. This grants players an extraordinary level of agility, presenting new tactical options like Drag and Revive to rescue teammates from danger and bring them back from the edge, as well as mounting weapons on walls to minimize recoil.

One quick note, this system bears no resemblance to the omni-movement featured in Call Of Duty Black Ops 6 but is a more refined and realistic feature that could elevate the skill threshold for competitive players who master it. Playing as the support class for a few matches, I found the ability to drag and revive a fallen teammate incredibly beneficial and it emphasizes the importance of teamwork. You must ensure that you have cover while performing this action.
