Nintendo is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Super Mario with great enthusiasm, as disclosed in the Nintendo Direct. The occasion not only revealed the sequel to the Super Mario Bros. Movie but also introduced several new games.

The sequel to the Mario film will be inspired by Super Mario Galaxy. To accompany this, both Super Mario Galaxy titles will be accessible on Nintendo Switch and the forthcoming Switch 2. These games are scheduled for release soon, on October 2, 2025, as a dual pack in physical form and individually on the Nintendo eShop.

Moreover, two new amiibo figures featuring Mario and Rosalina will be launched, but fans will need to wait until April 2, 2026, to acquire these items.

In addition to these announcements, Nintendo unveiled three more games centered around Mario. First up is Mario Tennis Fever, a fresh installment in Mario’s sports franchise. This game features a roster of over 30 characters, the largest ever in the series, and introduces a story mode where the characters are transformed into babies on a mysterious island. Mario Tennis Fever is set to debut on February 12, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2.

Following that, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder was revealed, featuring a new co-op expansion dubbed Meetup in Bellabel. This edition promises enhanced graphics and performance, and will be available in Spring 2026. Additionally, a physical Talking Flower product will be introduced, capable of randomly reciting lines while on display.

The final announcement was a new game featuring Yoshi, titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. This game showcases a delightful storybook art style, allowing players to uncover the secrets of Yoshi’s world through a mysterious book. It follows the traditional 2D platformer format reminiscent of Yoshi’s earlier games and will launch in Spring 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2.

With these thrilling announcements, Nintendo appears to have a wealth of content lined up for Mario’s 40th anniversary, making sure that fans of the beloved plumber have much to anticipate.
