The most consistent way to farm red border weapons is by completing Overthrows in the Pale Heart. You can do this anywhere, although The Landing is arguably the easiest. There’s a small chance you’ll find red border weapons in any chest you open, but your target is the boss’s chest.

Once you’ve reached Overthrow level 3 and defeated the boss that spawns, the chest it drops has a decent chance of containing a red border. You’ll usually find an Ergo Sum Exotic Sword as well.

You get points toward Overthrow levels by defeating enemies, but you’ll earn much more by completing challenges. Some challenges, like the Offering chests, are more cryptic than others, but you can complete them quickly with practice.

If you play with a friend, you can further speed up the process as you both contribute toward the Overthrow level.

What is a red border craftable weapon in Destiny 2?

If all this talk about borders and shaping makes your head spin, let me explain how the system works. Many weapons in Destiny 2 can be crafted, which means you get to select the perks you want. When you pick up engrams, some have a red border when you browse them in your inventory. Red borders aren’t common, but you can inspect the weapon and remove the pattern.

Once you have five patterns for any weapon, you can shape it at the Enclave in Savathun’s Throne world. Fortunately, you don’t destroy the item by removing the pattern, so collect them all.

You can also track your red border progress in the Collections menu under Patterns and Catalysts. As you can see in the image above, I just need one more The Call sidearm to reach five.

I’m chasing patterns for The Call as the sidearm is a monster, but it’s worth collecting them all, as you never know if they’ll get buffed in the future.
