Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang admits to affair with alleged Chinese spy as company board launches investigation

As reported by Axios, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has admitted to carrying on an extramarital affair with Alice Huang, an executive at Chinese AI company Megaspeed. According to The New York Times, the Trump administration suspects Ms. Huang of passing information to China’s Ministry of State Security. The Chinese government denies the accusation.

Both the NYT and Financial Times‘ previous reporting on Jensen Huang pursuing a romantic relationship with Alice Huang were contested by Nvidia, which had maintained that any relationship between the two was strictly professional.

Axios obtained a draft version of Jensen Huang’s email apology to Nvidia employees. “I owe my family and all of you an apology,” Huang allegedly wrote. “I was unfaithful to my wife. My actions hurt her and our children. There is no excuse for what I did.” Huang reportedly took “full responsibility” for the affair, but will not step down as Nvidia’s CEO: “I am fully committed to Nvidia and will work to earn back your confidence.”

Nvidia’s board is organizing an independent committee to investigate the relationship, but does not believe company or national security secrets were compromised. Nvidia’s board is not seeking Huang’s removal from the CEO position.

This all comes as the US takes an increasingly hawkish stance toward China, framing AI development as a national security issue and restricting the sale of advanced AI chips to Chinese companies. Meanwhile, US-based AI companies and their aggressive datacenter buildouts are proving increasingly unpopular with American voters.

I think I speak for all of us when I say: Damn, that’s crazy. Remember when Jensen Huang was just the gaming graphics guy and not the AI apocalypse national security guy? Perhaps we were all happier in those simpler times, including Huang, whatever his skyrocketing net worth might say to the contrary.
