Anyone tells you that love cannot be measured. That it’s a feeling deeper than any other emotion which has bound humanity together since the dawn of time and therefore cannot be quantified is lying to you. You absolutely can measure it, and I’d go as far as saying you can even rank people on it, which is exactly what Grand Theft Auto 6 is setting out to do.
The recent mega piece by Edge has revealed that GTA 6 players will be able to measure Jason and Lucia’s closeness in a four-point scale which we’re coining as the boyfriend-o-meter.
It’s confirmed that you can switch between characters in GTA 6 so you’ll likely have to show up for your other half no matter who you’re playing as. Activities like taking long romantic walks on the beach, working out at the gym together, and driving around so your other half can doomscroll will all work towards boosting your score.
The relationship between Lucia and Jason certainly seems to be more involved than we first thought, but that’s not to say it will take centre stage or be overly important. Your actions will have narrative consequences but only within a narrow scope of possibilities.
But that probably still won’t help to calm the growing discourse of people who seem to think that playing GTA 6 is essentially cheating on your partner. I personally think that this is just a psyop propagated by people who don’t like having fun, and that no real sensible person would see roleplaying a healthy relationship in a videogame as cheating on your significant other. Especially as you play as both characters; it’s essentially just playing make-believe with a couple of dolls, but I digress.
Who knows, though? Weirder things have been known to happen on the internet, so maybe there is an army of people angry at the notion of their significant other getting one videogame character to kiss another one.
I will, however, be relationshipping to the max. This is a competition which I plan to win and in the process of doing so show all of Leonida just how capable and fearsome my skills are at cultivating a healthy and strong relationship.
