### The Status of the Knights of the Old Republic II Remake

A full remake of *Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II* (KOTOR 2) was previously outlined as a potential follow-up to the remake of the original *Knights of the Old Republic* (KOTOR), which has been in development for several years. According to recent revelations, as of March 2023, this project, codenamed Project Juliet, was considered “technically on the roadmap,” although its current status appears uncertain.

This information emerged from court documents related to a false advertising lawsuit against Lucasfilm Games and Aspyr, concerning the failure to integrate the fan-made mod known as *The Sith Lords Restored Content Modification* (TSLRCM) into KOTOR 2’s Nintendo Switch port. The lawsuit has since been settled, and within the depositions, Lucasfilm Games vice president Douglas Reilly disclosed details about the KOTOR 2 remake project.

Reilly clarified that Project Juliet envisioned a comprehensive overhaul of KOTOR 2, with updates in art and gameplay while preserving the storyline and characters. The intent was to remake the game for modern hardware, enhancing graphics and overall experience in line with contemporary gaming standards. He specifically noted that the remake would also include the cut content from the TSLRCM mod, which sought to restore elements originally excluded from the game.

Despite these promising developments, there has been a notable lack of communication regarding the KOTOR 2 remake’s progress. Reports suggest a silence from Lucasfilm Games when inquiries about the current status were made, leaving fans speculating on whether the project is still active.

The uncertainty surrounding the KOTOR 2 remake is amplified by the tumultuous development of the first KOTOR remake, initially announced in 2021. This title has faced multiple delays, with fears of cancellation looming at various points. While it was indicated that limited resources were still working on the project, the recent sale of Saber Interactive by Embracer Group has raised further doubts about its future. Saber’s CEO did attempt to quell concerns by stating that the remake was “alive and well” as of April 2023, but many remain skeptical given the challenges faced.

Overall, while initial plans for a KOTOR 2 remake, codenamed Project Juliet, appear to have been set in motion, the path forward remains unclear. Fans of the series will need to remain patient as these developments unfold, hoping that the KOTOR legacy continues with the anticipated remakes.
