If you’re familiar with GaG, you’ll know that pets completely rewritten the genre of this gardening simulator. And, with the recent release of Garden Horizons, an inspired remaster of GaG, players are wondering if pets are coming to the game.
This article shares what we know so far, compiling talks from the DEVs, including their foresight and fears around adding companions to their game.
So, without further ado, let’s get into it.
## Are Pets Coming To Garden Horizons
The short answer is not yet, which should instil some hope that the DEVs aren’t completely writing pets off. But this may lead you to wonder why none were implemented for the launch of the game, and why they’re hesitant.
### Doing Pets Right
The DEVs like the idea of pets, but also want to keep them simple so as not to make the game feel PvP and led by a meta. This fear likely stems from how the community treated pets in GaG, curating a whole black market around pets based on their skills and rarity. This changed GaG from a cosy gardening simulator to a marketplace pet trading simulator.
So, from this, the DEVs instil that they want pets to be cosmetic, offering some features without completely breaking the flow of the game.
Pets, if and when implemented, will aid with crop growth and mutations, similar to how the weather system in-game currently works. It’s simple and adds some life to your plot as you watch your companion bumble around, making them feel more casual and friendly, as opposed to a necessity to chase the next meta.
### It’s Better This Way
You may feel disappointed that there isn’t a clear answer on pets, when in actuality its better this way. Letting the DEVs take time with their additions and projects means they’ll meet expectations, and new features will be the best they can be when launched.
One thing that also encourages me to believe pets will eventually drop is that trading and gifting are not enabled in Garden Horizons. Losing the ability to share produce means all players work solely for themselves, and their plot and produce is their own hard work. This retains the delicate ecosystem of Garden Horizons, cherishing friendly gameplay over black market economies and potential scams.
Plus, it’s clear that the DEVs love cosmetics with how rich and lively the map feels. NPCs have beautiful animations, and the world feels so lush and fun to explore. It’s almost certain that pets will enhance the cosmetical value of Garden Horizons and won’t tarnish its genre or vibe.
Hopefully, this answer suffices for now. As and when we learn more about pets, I’ll update this article, so please check back soon for new information.
