Not long after changing their project’s name from Fallout: Revelation Blues to Fallout: The New West, the developers behind a New Vegas mod aimed at remaking a canceled Fallout game have announced a release date for their second demo. This upcoming demo, which aims to resurrect Van Buren— the version of Fallout 3 that was in development at Black Isle Studios before being canceled in 2003—is set to be available on March 5th.
Unlike the Burham Springs demo released by the New West team last year, the forthcoming demo will introduce players to an alternate New Vegas start, which will serve as the introduction to the full mod. The developers have already pulled the previous Burham Springs demo offline, with their Nexus Mods page indicating that it is “currently not supported by the author(s) and/or has issue(s) they are unable to fix yet.”
The new demo will immerse players in Tibbets prison, where they will likely need to negotiate their release. Players can expect interactions with various robots and AI governing the facility as part of the gameplay. Developer Caveman6667 explained in a Discord announcement that “this experience offers players a new point of entry into the Mojave,” emphasizing the design and purpose of each gameplay block and the consequences of players’ decisions.
Once the Tibbets demo launches, the developers plan to release the entire first act of The New West as a vertical slice. The mod aims to tell the same broad story envisioned by Fallout: Van Buren but with a new structure and expanded content to provide a cohesive and playable experience. Drawing from publicly available design documents of the canceled game, The New West will take place in an “alternate continuity that predates and reinterprets the events of Fallout: New Vegas.” The creators also seek to blend modern gameplay experiences with classic Fallout mechanics.
If successful, this project could serve as a bridge between the original Fallout titles and the spiritual successor, New Vegas, appealing to fans of the franchise. As the release date approaches, anticipation builds for players keen to dive into the world of Fallout: The New West.
