Well, well, well! Apparently, [Resident Evil](https://game.capcom.com/residentevil/en/) creator Shinji Mikami is working on an AAA Action RPG. It’s from his newest studio, [Unbound Games.](https://www.unbound-games.co.jp/) It’s not official, though. But we’ve been able to pull the scoop out through a recent job listing. Yep, you read it right! A job listing.
It indicates that the team is building a brand-new AAA game based on an original IP. The title will be a multiplatform release and use Unreal Engine for its development. Details are still thin, obviously, but several clues point toward the game leaning into fantasy themes. Not the survival horror style Mikami is most associated with.
## Mikami is often described as the father of the Resident Evil games
He left Capcom back in 2007. After that, he helped establish PlatinumGames and later joined Tango Gameworks, the studio behind Hi‑Fi Rush. Tango Gameworks was shut down by Microsoft in 2024, though Mikami himself had already departed the studio in 2023.
Around that same period, he set up Unbound Games. And now, the studio is gearing up for its first project. The studio is currently operating with around 50 staff members, including developers who previously worked on series such as Silent Hill, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Dino Crisis.
Now, coming back to the thing that gave it all away for us: the job listing. It highlights an Effects or VFX designer role responsible for building visual elements such as fire, water, explosions, magic, and hit marks. The reference to magic in particular hints that the project will include fantasy elements. Yeah, it’s all just speculation for now.
So, whatever it is, players are quite excited for the upcoming title. What do you think about the Resident Evil creator Mikami working on an AAA Action RPG? Are you excited? Comment and let us know!
