Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Strives for Realism and Openness in Shooting Gameplay

The community team for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 asserts that players can “retain the evidence” as it strives to stay “true to what Modern Warfare represents”.

Earlier this week, Infinity Ward and Activision unveiled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, announcing its release on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 23, 2026. In a series of marketing communications following the reveal, the team emphasized its goal to keep the shooter “grounded and open”, which includes aspects related to cosmetics and partnerships.

For example, in a post shared on X/Twitter, the team stated: “Each element of Modern Warfare 4 is rooted in the game’s story. Every feature and decision must resonate authentically with what Modern Warfare embodies, including cosmetics and collaborations. We’re dedicated to keeping it grounded and transparent, and we want your input on what you’d like to see in our game.”

This commitment follows the team’s acknowledgment last summer that the series had “strayed from what originally made Call of Duty special” after working with a range of, well, unexpected partners, like Beavis and Butthead, American Dad, and Nicki Minaj.

When a dissatisfied player pointed this out and recommended that fans “screenshot this tweet to use against them whenever they bring in Lady Gaga, Omni-Man, or some other silly collaboration into the game”, the team responded, stating: “No Lady Gaga. No Omni-Man. No Teletubbies. No SpongeBob. Keep the receipts.”

ICYMI, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to include three primary game modes: a campaign, multiplayer, and the much-anticipated revival of its extraction shooter mode, DMZ, while numerous significant alterations are also planned for the multiplayer experience.

These alterations consist of enhanced movement features, ‘apex attachments’ that significantly modify weapon capabilities, and possibly one of the most remarkable updates, a new bullet trajectory system. This system eliminates the randomized weapon bloom that previously caused bullets to veer semi-randomly from firearms.
