### Kemuri: A New Adventure in Yokai Hunting
PlayStation has recently unveiled exciting details about *Kemuri*, the vibrant new third-person action game led by Ikumi Nakamura, a former developer from Tango Gameworks. Known for her standout presence during E3 2019 and her significant role in *Ghostwire: Tokyo*, Nakamura brings her creative vision to this new project, which is set to immerse players in an athletic adventure through a sprawling vertical city, filled with folklore-inspired creatures.
#### Gameplay Mechanics
In *Kemuri*, players assume the role of a yokai hunter, navigating a richly crafted environment brimming with hidden beings that draw from real-world folklore as well as original designs. Among these creatures, players will encounter a strikingly large walking skeleton reminiscent of Godzilla. The game introduces a unique mechanic called the “foxwindow,” wherein players can reveal yokai by forming a specific shape with their hands, offering a blend of exploration and combat.
Once yokai are revealed, players have the opportunity to engage them in combat, defeating these entities to turn them into “Possession Apparel,” a potential class system that hints at diverse character customization and play styles. Players can choose from three broad approaches: fisticuffs, archery, and magic, providing varied gameplay experiences that will ideally expand as further details are revealed.
#### Online and Co-op Features
The nature of *Kemuri*’s online gameplay remains somewhat of an enigma. While it supports traditional co-op play for up to three players, Nakamura has hinted at a more interconnected experience during single-player gaming. She noted in a PlayStation blog post, “Even in single-player, you are never truly alone in this city,” suggesting that players might encounter distinctive hunters and yokai companions throughout their journey, heightening the immersive experience.
This cooperative aspect invites an intriguing dimension to multiplayer sessions, as Nakamura elaborates on the dynamic interactions between players. “Together, players dive into the city as one discovers, one guides, and one strikes the final blow,” she explains, suggesting that each player will have a unique perspective of the environment. Such variances offer an opportunity for diverse player experiences, enhancing the co-op gameplay and encouraging teamwork.
#### Release Information
Currently scheduled for release in 2027 on PS5, *Kemuri* will also be available on PC—an inclusion that differs from other major titles such as *God of War: Laufey* and *Wolverine*. Fans are hopeful for features reminiscent of *Gravity Rush*, particularly regarding airborne mechanics that could add an exciting layer to gameplay.
As players eagerly await its release, *Kemuri* promises to deliver a captivating blend of action, folklore, and innovative cooperative gameplay, ensuring a memorable adventure in the realm of yokai hunting.
