Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is the upcoming title from Arc System Works, the company responsible for Dragon Ball FighterZ, Guilty Gear, and numerous other anime fighting games. Although it is a tag fighter situated in the Marvel superhero realm, it’s not simply a reimagined version of Marvel vs. Capcom; it boasts its own unique systems, characters, and mechanics. Whether you’re a Marvel enthusiast who doesn’t dive into fighting games much and is curious if this title suits you, or you’re an MvC aficionado wondering if it can fulfill that tag fighter craving, let’s delve into what we’ve learned so far.
How does Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls function?
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 tag fighter, and while that may seem overwhelming, remember that this isn’t akin to Marvel vs. Capcom where you juggle numerous heroes and monitor various health bars. Instead, you begin with just two characters and join up with your teammates throughout a match, with these additions also boosting your health bar and skill gauge. You can incorporate new characters into your team via stage transitions, pushing an opponent into a corner, or losing a round, allowing you to access additional assist moves or switch between team members for the match’s duration. The assist moves that characters utilize depend on their position within your team, with directional inputs assigned to each. Additionally, you can leverage the team-up gauge for executing combos and mix-ups, as well as unleashing multiple special attacks from your team in mere moments.
Who are the fighters you can play in Marvel Tōkon?
Marvel Tōkon features five teams of four, some of which closely resemble recognizable superhero teams from the Marvel universe, while a few appear to have been grouped together to allow their individual members as playable fighters. Despite being organized into groups of four, players can choose freely from the roster to create their own team during gameplay.
