Uh oh. Steam achievement lists for a smorgasbord of unreleased and unannounced PC games have leaked via the trophy tracking site Exophase. Titles such as Atlus RPG Persona 6, RGG brawler Stranger Than Heaven, and Thief: The Dark Project Remastered have seemingly had their trophies revealed through this leak. Additionally, more imminent releases like Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve have also been affected.
The lists emerged on Exophase, which compiled information on upcoming games whose alleged trophies surfaced online. Mike Bendel, the owner of Exophase – known as x3sphere – noted in a post on ResetEra that the incident points to a possible mistake on Valve’s part. He explained that a set of games with achievements that should remain private became accessible through the API, leading to their discovery on the site. He remarked, “I usually never see games without an actual name pop up with achievements, yet over the past hour or so a bunch have.”
For users curious enough to delve into the achievement lists, caution is advised, as doing so runs the risk of encountering major story spoilers. This is particularly true for titles like Persona 6, Kingdom Hearts 4, and Mega Man: Dual Override, though even seemingly unrelated games like Clutch may contain unexpected spoilers.
In a brief examination of some of the lists, a few intriguing details were found. The upcoming game Fable features an achievement titled “Cost of Living Crisis.” Ken Levine’s Judas currently contains a trophy for achieving 10 kills, suggesting a potential end-point for gameplay. Notably, Stranger Than Heaven includes an achievement related to smoking 20 or more hand-rolled cigarettes, but it does not appear to reward players for romancing the resurrected corpse of Tupac.
As the gaming community processes this leak, attention will likely turn to how developers and publishers respond as they navigate the delicate balance of anticipation and spoiler management for these upcoming titles.
