**Larian Studios Welcomes Generative AI in Game Development**

Larian Studios, known for the highly praised *Baldur’s Gate 3*, is adopting a progressive method in game development by welcoming generative AI. Despite facing some pushback from fans and worries among certain developers at the studio, CEO Swen Vincke has presented an optimistic view on the technology, emphasizing its value in idea exploration and new content prototyping.

Bloomberg reports that Larian has been incorporating generative AI into multiple aspects of their development workflow. This encompasses creating PowerPoint presentations, drafting placeholder text, and even generating concept art. The studio remains committed to these tools, despite some hesitations voiced by employees. Vincke, however, is confident that the majority of the team backs the current implementation approach.

As Vincke mentioned, “But I think at this point everyone at the company is more or less OK with the way we’re using it.” This showcases a careful balance between innovation and upholding creative integrity.

Crucially, Vincke has assured fans that no generative AI content will be included in the final releases of their games, such as the eagerly awaited turn-based RPG *Divinity*. He clarified that all content is crafted by human actors and creators: “Everything is human actors; we’re writing everything ourselves.”

This viewpoint aligns with Vincke’s earlier comments regarding AI in game development. He has stressed that while generative tools can improve certain workflows, human inventiveness is the foundation of creating outstanding games. “I don’t think you would have a competitive advantage if you do [utilize AI], because it’s going to be what’s available to everybody,” he explained. Vincke believes the emphasis should stay on crafting something distinctive that sets a team apart from others using similar technologies.

Moreover, he voiced doubts about the idea that AI could substitute human craftsmanship in game development. His observations underscore a cautious optimism about AI tools, which could help identify plot inconsistencies and enhance complex narrative structures while still relying on human talent for the actual content creation.

This thoughtful perspective arises following recent industry controversies, such as the backlash against AI-generated components in other titles like *The Alters*. Instances of AI-generated content have sparked discussions regarding creativity and authorship, complicating the ongoing debate about the ethics of AI in creative industries.

As Larian Studios continues to advance in the gaming world, their approach to generative AI could lead to a new era in game development that appreciates both technology and the irreplaceable nature of human creativity.
