Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to receive a major update for its PS5 version, offering extensive new content free of charge. This marks a departure from the previous approach seen in the first game, where extra content was made available through a paid Director’s Cut. The upcoming update introduces various enhancements, including a challenging new difficulty mode called To The Wilder, which promises to be the most demanding option yet.
Additionally, boss fights have been revitalized with the introduction of replayable encounters, including battles against a new character, Neil. Players will also notice an intriguing update to Sam’s Private Room, adding a Chiral Cat for a touch of peculiarity.
Content initially cut from the original release is also being reintroduced. This includes live-action cutscenes that were previously omitted due to storage constraints, alongside fresh footage and novel nightmare sequences for the protagonist, Sam.
The decision to provide this update for free is noteworthy, integrating all the enhancements without dividing them into a separate release. Remarkably, the PS5 version will also be granted 21:9 ultrawide support, a rare feature in console gaming.
While the PS5 update launches, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is preparing for its debut on a new platform. The game’s PC version will officially be available this Thursday, March 19th, 2026. PC players are encouraged to pre-purchase the game on Steam.
Hideo Kojima announced these developments during an appearance on the Japanese radio show Spacewalk, marking the first significant update in several months. Gamers are urged not to miss out, whether they prefer PlayStation or are awaiting the PC release.
