Location of Bridger Western Dogbane Herb

With three main uses, the Dogbane Herb is an item most players should seek out. Before I go into what this herb is used for in Bridger Western, let’s first find out how and where to get it.

Bridger Western Dogbane Herb Location

When collecting Dogbane Herbs, there are no set locations. Instead, you have a 4% chance of obtaining the herb when opening any chests dropped by enemies. As you can tell from the low drop chance, it’s not an overly common item. However, its various uses make it a sought-after item amongst outlaws and inlaws.

Dogbane Herb Uses

No matter what you’re using Dogbane Herbs for, you first need to visit the Mud Witch in her hut, located in the swamp. She’s also the required NPC when rolling for new cards.

With a Dogbane Herb, she grants you three options:

  • Sell the herb for 2.5K Moola
  • Wipe your current Stand
  • Lower your character’s age by 20 years

Lowering Your Age

Ageing is a thing in Bridger Western, and lowering your age with a Dogbane Herb prevents your character from getting old for a while. The Mud Witch can reduce your current age by 20 years, as each time you’re defeated, you age up by 1 or 2 years. Leaving the game in the middle of combat ages you the most, increasing your age by 5 to 10 years. To note, you cannot go lower than 18 years old.

As your character ages up, your hair turns white or grey, and you get wrinkles. Eventually, around 70 to 80 years old, you suffer heart failure, sending you to Limbo. Here, you can either wipe your save before making a new character or be reborn. The available choices all depend on the achievements you made during the playthrough.

To check your current age, you can press the M key.

Wiping Stands

Wiping your current Stand is one of the main uses of Dogbane Herbs. As the vast majority of Stands are random drops from either Stand Arrows or Corpse Parts, there’s a chance you’ll get a Stand you don’t really want. With a Dogbane Herb, you can remove the Stand, which is essentially a reset for your character. You can roll for a new one, or you can play Stand-less.

I do recommend using a Stand as they can be incredibly powerful in both PvE and PvP. Not all players want a Stand, though, and are happy to stick with guns and the card system. Speaking of, to roll for cards, you need to speak with the Mud Witch. Each roll costs 150 Moola, offering three cards to choose from.

As for Stands, you have to use Arrow Shards, which you have a 0.5% chance of getting when you go fishing. Obtaining Corpse Parts also grants you the chance to roll for a new Stand. Some Stands have other unlock requirements.

Selling For Moola

This is probably self-explanatory, but 2.5K Moola is a decent amount. You need Moola for a variety of things in the game, including the purchase of new guns. There are plenty of ways to earn Moola, so in my opinion, you should save Dogbane Herbs for Stand wipes and decreasing your character’s age.
